In the distance, the Dreamer towered over the landscape at nearly three thousand feet. What had been a mountain moments ago was now transforming before their eyes. Massive fissures split the rock façade under the ethereal glow of the three moons, illuminating the giant form of the Colossus.

The enormous creature dwarfed every Colossi Chris had seen yet.

This was a true God.

As it came to full height, Chris stared up in awe. The body and legs were covered in a layer of bark-like armor. That same armor protected the dense limbs and branches dangling from the sky above.

Its “face” wasn’t human, but rather a complex arrangement of sensory organs that emitted a blinding radiance as it surveyed its surroundings with ancient awareness. The creature turned its attention on the Rax’Kull outposts studded into the mountainside.

With a sleepy swing, it struck its first blow in centuries. Rax’Kull warriors, no bigger than ants, cartwheeled away from the explosion of chitinous structures and rocks that had been another outpost.

“Run, nail-pounder!” Bunny squeaked, his voice barely audible above the rumbling destruction.

Chris stumbled away with an arm around Nikolai, supporting the wounded man’s weight across the unstable terrain. Behind them, the Colossus continued its assault on the Rax’Kull bases. The insectoid forces skittered down mountain faces like ants fleeing a disturbed nest, their chitinous bodies glinting in the moonlight.

Another violent tremor rocked the ground, nearly knocking Chris and Nikolai off their feet. Sarah, still weakened from her captivity, fell to her knees with a gasp.

“We need to get farther away!” Bunny squeaked frantically. “That thing’s just getting started!”

Vineleaf chittered in response, its frond-fur rippling with agitation. The plant-creature was no longer excited by the spectacle but genuinely terrified of what they unleashed.

“This way, baby!” Bunny urged, gesturing toward a natural crevice in the rock wall. “That’ll give us some protection from the falling debris!”

They scrambled for cover, Tony leaning heavily on Kenji while Chris half-carried Nikolai. Echo and Poe took the lead, the dog’s keen senses guiding them through the chaos while the raven scouted overhead, cawing warnings when massive chunks of mountain rained around them.

From the relative safety of their shelter, Chris watched in awe as the Dreamer unleashed centuries of pent-up rage. The Colossus let out a roar that shook the very bedrock beneath them, a sound like a thousand ancient trees cracking simultaneously under tremendous pressure. Its enormous limbs ravaged the mountain in explosive bursts of pulverized rock, each impact sending shockwaves through the air.

The creature’s movements transitioned from sluggish to frighteningly precise as it fully awakened, fueled by rage accumulated over centuries of torment and exploitation. Its limbs swung with devastating force, showing no regard for what lay in their path. A Rax’Kull outpost tower that had been embedded in its side was swept away as if made of paper, simply by the destructive force of the Dreamer’s swings. Another structure flew through the air before crashing into the forest below, igniting fires where it landed.

“What an incredible weapon against the Rax’Kull,” Sarah whispered, her eyes wide with wonder and fear.
